How are classes structured?

Video coming soon…

Generous in her teaching, Anasma loves giving and exchanging. She keeps the energy high in her fun and informative workshops, creating a supportive learning environment.

Anasma’s classes/ workshops start by a warm up that includes muscle strengthening, body awareness, breathing, deep stretching, balancing through the usage of yoga asanas, exercising and dancing. This portion of the class ointroduces the dance style that will be the focus of the workshop.

Then, technique relative to the topic is taught through the introduction of new concepts and drilling. We work the body out and innovative ways to express ourselves throughmovement.

Combinations are created throughout the class or at the end of the class, in order to put together a short choreography. Workshops and classes are a space for creativity. While choreography is an important tool for teaching and learning, Anasma also encourages improvisation, to keep the dancing alive.

The class ends with a cool down.

The length of a class is variable and the structure is adaptable to the different time frames.

Anasma wants dancers in her classes to be safe. (Read more about safety here).

    About DVDs

What is the difference between “Bellydance Hip-Hop: Liquid Fusion” DVD and “Wave Explosion”?

“Bellydance Hip-Hop: Liquid Fusion” introduces the fusion concepts that Anasma uses between both Bellydance and Hip-Hop styles. It is a practice partner and tool to use over and over. You might want to watch it a couple times to get all the ideas presented. Its generous format contains 4 hours of material: technique breakdown, drilling combos, a full choreography (as well as three performances). You learn the combos from the choreography throughout the technical breakdown. The 2- DVD set is meant to be used by dancers from advanced beginner level to advanced. If you are new to Bellydance or to Hip-Hop, this will challenge your memory but give you a good base to develop body awareness and play with your weight shift. If you are an advanced dancer (specialized in Raqs Sharqi or in Tribal fusion), you will also be challenged… by the change of habits, weight shift and complex and unusual layering. If you come from a Hip-Hop background, you will learn the basics of bellydance and add fluidity to your moves.

“Wave Explosion” uses the fusion concepts introduced in “Bellydance Hip-Hop: Liquid Fusion” and layers on top of all of them the concept of “waving.” The idea of wave theory is to keep the flow of your movements continuous and always know where the energy is and where it is going. The DVD consists of two sections: drills building up to a choreography, and a tutorial. The tutorial section features the Zen Chi Master Future: one of the major figures and innovators of waving, and Anasma’s dear teacher. The tutorials go over different styles of arms and body waves and take the basic moves introduced in “Bellydance Hip-Hop: Liquid Fusion” further, incorporating waving technique. The DVD also includes five different performances by Anasma, Future and Megatron.

Where can I buy DVDs featuring Anasma?

Please visit Anasma’s store online. Although you may be able to purchase the DVDs for a lower price on Amazon, by buying your copy on the website store, you can support Anasma directly. In addition, you’ll receive an autographed copy (please indicate the name you would like Anasma to sign to) and the choreography in text form (either in French or in English).

You can also purchase DVDs from Anasma during workshops. This way, you avoid shipping cost, get your DVD autographed and meet Anasma in person.

    About Performance

Where can I see Anasma perform?

Anasma performs around the world. Check out the schedule here to find out about her next performance.

You can also watch Anasma on youtube or get one of her DVDs. Her performance DVDs usually feature her and other artists. Her instructional DVDs also includes performances.

Are Anasma’s performances featured on her DVDs on Youtube?

Anasma tries to show on youtube what is not featured on a DVD… Some characters or themes may be similar but teh same choreography may look very different in various settings. If pieces featured on a DVD are online, it is because the presentation, venue, storyline of the piece online is different from the DVD version. The DVD version offers a better quality image. By getting your copy from the online store, you can get your copy autographed by Anasma.
